Our Open Communion Table

In the United Church of Christ, everyone is welcome to our Communion table to partake in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.  If you have not been to church for a very long time; or, if you have attended a church of another denomination; or, if you have never been to church at all, you are welcome at our table.  We don’t turn anyone away.  This is because we follow the teachings of Jesus, who welcomed everyone – especially society’s outcasts – to his table in whatever town he was traveling through.  He sat down with poor folks, tax collectors, prostitutes, disabled persons – all those shunned by religion and society.  We welcome those who have not found a church home yet.  We are a church made up of seekers who don’t have all the answers, and so, are ready to learn from those who are seeking, too.

The Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism is a sign and symbol of God’s presence with us as we join the universal Christian family.  We baptize infants as well as adults, and anyone in between who has never been baptized a Christian.  According to the agreement among the World Council of Churches, all baptisms by Christian churches are recognized by each other.  So, if you want to join our church, you need not be re-baptized.   We invite you to witness a baptism in our church so that you can get a sense of the presence of the Holy Spirit entering the life of one who has chosen to join the family of Jesus Christ.

Weddings: Marriage Equality for All!

We are pleased to help you plan your Christian wedding ceremony, either at the church or at a venue of your choosing.  If you are considering getting married at our church, we invite you to a few Sunday worship services so you can get a feel for our faith community.   Our Pastor, commissioned by the UCC and the State of Massachusetts, strongly believes in marriage equality for all.  Our church is an Open & Affirming Congregation, so we welcome all couples – both straight & members of the LGBTQ community - to consider marrying here.  Today’s wedding couples are often blending families and faith traditions, and we are happy to help include everyone in the service.   We can also help craft a Renewal of Vows Ceremony for your anniversary.

Memorial Services

We take great care to plan memorial services that pay proper homage to your loved one through music, prayer and reflection. Even if you have no current church home, we welcome you to our church for sensitive pastoral care for the entire family at your time of great sorrow and stress. Or you may choose to have the service at your local funeral home or at the graveside.  Let us help you create the perfect service for your family’s needs.

Spiritual Life

FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF SAUGUS

Every Sunday morning we gather together for an hour of prayer, song and meditation – an hour that many of us find gives us comfort after a hard week,
and inspiration for the week to come. We light a Peace Candle to open our time together, praying for God to heal a hurting world. We read a Bible passage
and hear our Pastor’s sermon, as she attempts to make the ancient words come alive for us today.

The biblical theme is woven into our songs and prayers.  Our children share in worship with us at the beginning of the service, then go to Sunday School with
their teachers.  People of all ages and abilities are welcome to our church. All that is required is a hunger to know where God’s Holy Spirit may be leading us next.
